Buying beer to celebrate a double murder: CCTV of son hours after shotgun killing of his as he is jailed for 40 years. This is the moment that an evil convicted fraudster bought a crate of beer in
a busy supermarket – to toast the cold-blooded execution of his to collect his £230,000 inheritance. Stephen Seddon, 46, went to his local store in Seaham, County Durham, dressed in blue just hours after shooting dead his parents at their home 150 miles away, in the hope it would give an alibi.
But today Seddon was told he will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being jailed for at least 40 years for murdering his father Robert, 68, and mother Patricia, 65, in Sale, Greater Manchester.
Police became suspicious of Seddon’s alibi when they found he was at the same retail park six hours earlier dressed in black and checked roadside cameras to retrace the movements of his BMW car. He had once before tried to murder his parents by driving into a canal them in the back seats.
Seddon then ‘played the hero’ following the faked road accident, boasting of his supposed rescue attempts after aborting the murder plan when bystanders went to their aid in the submerged car. But after that plan failed, four months later he blasted the couple to death with a sawn-off shotgun at their home.
His parents had made him sole beneficiary of their £230,000 estate in their will. Seddon was given a mandatory life sentence for two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder after being convicted by a jury at Manchester Crown Court yesterday.
But Mr Justice Hamblen told the defendant that, in his case, life should mean life and he ordered Seddon to serve a whole-life term – so he will never be released
